Prefinished Wood Flooring is a modern method where the wood planks are made to specific sizes and then stained and sealed at the factory. The colour of the stain, and the layers of sealant and top coats depends on the manufacturer. While generally more expensive, prefinished wood floors are faster to install, and require minimal work at the site, making them an ideal upgrade for an existing house. The resulting floor will have a wooden-tiled like appearance.
Cut & Polish flooring is the conventional method of wood flooring in Sri Lanka. In this method the plank lengths are not standardized and can vary. After the planks are installed they are sanded, and then the colour stain, selant and top coats are applied at the installed location. The resulting floor will have a seamless smooth finish, and is easier to repair if there are light damages.
